Welcome to GRADE 3 IN Div.8!
Hello! I'm Mrs. Bevan and I am super excited about learning and exploring new things and ideas with all of you this year. We are going to make some fantastic memories as we grow together throughout the year. I can't wait to learn more about each and everyone of you!
In order to make Grade 3 the best year ever, we all need to be willing to try our best to do the following things every day:
Do you think you can try your best to practice all those things everyday at school? I promise to do the same.
Awesome! Now let's get started on our new adventure together in Grade 3! Woohoo!!
In order to make Grade 3 the best year ever, we all need to be willing to try our best to do the following things every day:

- be kind & respectful
- take risks in your learning
- remember that all those things you think other's might think are strange, actually make you super awesome and unique
- try new things and make mistakes because that is how you learn!
Do you think you can try your best to practice all those things everyday at school? I promise to do the same.
Awesome! Now let's get started on our new adventure together in Grade 3! Woohoo!!
TIME CAPSULE
Sept. 9th: Last week we all put an envelope in our class time capsule recording some of our favourite things the first week of Grade 3, as well as a string to measure our height and a tracing of the size of our hand.
Bevan bank & bevan bucks: our classroom currency
Sept. 9th: This week the students joined the Bevan Bank and started earning our classroom currency called Bevan Bucks. It's a fun way for us to start learning about financial literacy at a young age. We have to keep track of how many BB we earn or ‘pay up’ every day in our balance books, which we keep in our wallets. Each auction, which we have every 3 weeks, we have to count up our BB to see if the amount we actually have in our wallets matches that amount we recorded in our balance books. Then we have to decide whether we will spend our money or save it for a larger ticket item. Each item is auctioned off and goes to the highest bidder. When we win/purchase an item, we need to fill out a cheque to the BB bank in order to receive that item. This is a fun way to not only learn about money, but also about personal responsibility and self-regulation.
Our First Auction!
Sept. 26th: Today we had our very first Bevan Buck auction! It was a great success. Many of us chose to spend our money on a 30 BB item, but most of us decided to save our money for a larger priced item. First two pictures on top are 30 BB items, these items aren't up for bid, but are up for purchase each auction. The bin in the third pic are 60 BB items, and the items in the pictures then continue in increments of 30 up to 150 BB. Items over 30 BB are up for auction and go to the highest bidder.
Orange Shirt day
Sept 30th: In Social Studies we have been learning about the Residential School Systems in Canada through authentic stories and resources. We have been asking a lot of questions about these schools, as well as learning what Orange Shirt day stands for and what it means when we say 'Every Child Matters'. We had a look at an example daily schedule for students who attended Residential Schools and then created our own daily schedule. Afterward we learned how to use a Venn diagram to compare these two schedules. Below are some of the Orange Shirts we created after our first discussion about Orange Shirt Day.
Metis Jigging Workshop
Oct. 1st: Today we had a Metis jigging workshop with a Metis dancer and fiddler from the V'ni Dansi Dance Group. We learned four jigging steps; the basic step and three fancy steps. Over the past week we have learned a little about Metis culture in preparation for this workshop. Our students had some very insightful question to ask our special Metis guest after we learned our jigging steps. They took the workshop very enthusiastically, were very respectful and all really tried their best!
